Sibstar Named One of Bloomberg’s “25 Start-Ups to Watch” in 2024

At Sibstar, we are absolutely thrilled to be named one of Bloomberg’s “25 Start-Ups to Watch” in 2024. This recognition is a testament to the important work we’re doing to protect people with dementia, learning disabilities and mental health conditions from financial vulnerability and scams, all whilst retaining their independence. It’s a milestone for us, but even more so for the families and caregivers who rely on our debit card andt app to protect their loved ones.

A Personal Journey Inspired Sibstar

Sibstar’s creation is rooted in founder Jayne’s own experience of caring for her mum and dad, who were diagnosed with dementia. As her mum’s condition progressed, Jayne noticed some worrying behaviours  – her mum was overspending, losing track of her finances, and had become a target for scammers. Like many families in this situation, Jayne felt overwhelmed and helpless.

“There simply wasn’t anything out there to help,” Jayne recalls. “My mum’s financial independence was slipping away, and it was heartbreaking to watch. I wanted to find a solution that could offer protection, but still allow her to manage her own money with dignity.”

That’s when the idea for Sibstar was born: a debit card and app designed to help people with dementia and other mental health conditions stay in control of their everyday spending, while giving families peace of mind.

The Sibstar Solution

Sibstar provides financial freedom to people with dementia by allowing them to safely manage their money, while also providing the option for caregivers to step in when necessary. With our easy-to-use app, loved ones can monitor, manage, and track spending, ensuring that secure purchases are being made and that users are protected from overspending or being scammed.

Our goal is simple – to offer a dignified way of keeping everyday spending safe, without taking away a person’s independence. Sibstar empowers people to maintain control over their money, while giving families the tools they need to help manage the day-to-day money when required.

Why This Recognition Matters

Being named a start-up to watch by Bloomberg not only validates our mission but also highlights the growing need for solutions like Sibstar. Nearly 1 million people are living with dementia, financial vulnerability is an issue that affects millions of families. The recognition shines a light on the importance of providing innovative tools to help protect those who may not be able to fully protect themselves.

This accolade also energises us to continue improving Sibstar, to reach more families, to continue to offer best-in-class customer service, and to develop further features for greater protection and support for those navigating the challenges of dementia and mental health conditions.

Jayne commented, “It’s a deeply personal journey for me, Sibstar was created out of necessity – there simply wasn’t anything available to give families peace of mind while still allowing their loved ones to have financial independence. Being recognised by Bloomberg is an incredible honour, and it’s a reminder of why we started this – to protect vulnerable people and provide families with the support they need.”

What’s Next for Sibstar?

While we’re incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, this is just the beginning. As we look to the future, we’re focused on expanding our reach, partnering with more organisations, and continuing to listen to the needs of our customers. Our aim is to ensure that everyone affected by dementia has access to tools that help them manage their finances in a safe, dignified, and supportive way. .
